For many people easy-Speak is only a tool that we use in Europe to manage our club meetings. But many don’t know that this a system entirely developed by volunteers independently from Toastmasters International. Malcolm Warden, is the father of easy-Speak, he is the System Developer for the whole easy-Speak system. There are currently 4 independent installations of easy-Speak on the internet, one for UK and Ireland, another for continental Europe (www.tmclub.eu), one for testing, and the last one for the rest of clubs around the world.
Currently continental Europe (District 59 and 95) easy-Speak has more than 40,000 users, and more than 400 active clubs registered. These are impressive numbers taking into account the whole system is supported, maintained, updated and continuously developed by volunteers.
The technical and organizational challenges are enormous and much of the work done “in the shadow” is not visible. In addition, internet is constantly changing every day: new security threats, confidentiality and data privacy legislations, increased standards and security requirements by email service providers such as yahoo, gmail, Hotmail, etc, new versions of internet browsers (Internet Explorer, firefox, etc). All these changes need to be tackled by constant monitoring, updating, and improvement of easy-Speak system and its functionalities. Not to mention the constant support for users and training needs which are an essential element that sustain easy-Speak.
Last December update of easy-Speak installation received a deep update with several significant improvements, including a big step in improving performance. This was a complex update, it created some problems the first weeks but this was necessary. After the update several problems were flagged by the users. One of them was related to the easy-Speak mailing system, many of you have experienced problems with e-mails. The System developer, administrators and support team were aware of these problems and did our best to solve these problems and provide support to users.
If you keep experiencing any new problem or still linked to this update let us know reporting it in the discussion forum or direct contact, but first please check the Discussion Forum because it may have been already reported and fixed in the “Problem report” forum: click to report here (The "Problem" general-discussion forum under Help Options).
To insure long-term support to our clubs, we are working together with TI headquarters staff to prepare for the revitalized Education Program of next year.
Easy-Speak is being translated by volunteer teams now into French, German, Polish and Italian versions; soon more languages will be added.
The development team are currently working on several more performance updates as well as some enhancements and new features.
