About Us |
Our club is a part of Toastmasters, an international organisation, which has been nurturing speakers and leaders for almost a century. The three pillars of education in a Toastmasters Club are as follows:
1. We learn to speak. Participants of club meetings develop their public speaking skills by delivering short (usually 5-7 minutes long) speeches. After every performance, they receive feedback from an evaluator, who highlights the strengths of the speech and shares some suggestions for improvement. In order to prepare a speech, the speaker can make use of the communication handbook provided, which presents useful advice in a concise and informative manner, as well as ask their Mentor for help.
2. We work on our leadership skills. During the club meetings, participants hone such skills as active listening, time management, team building, and giving feedback. You can gain those skills by performing particular functions on the meetings, including the role of the timer, speech evaluator, general evaluator, body language adviser or grammarian. Developing as a leader goes beyond the club as well – a member can get involved in the organisation of contests, extra meetings or promotional campaigns. Every meeting has a different host, the so called Toastmaster, which enables everyone to prove themselves in organising an event.
3. We advance our English language skills. The language of the meetings is English only, which lets the participants improve quickly. No matter what your level of English is – if you can understand basic expressions, it is a great start and a good moment to surround yourself with English regularly.
We cherish and foster a friendly atmosphere in the club, among others by encouraging participants to call each other by their first names. You can attend our meetings three times as a Guest and see for yourself how it works. |
