2014 Word Weavers Club Contest

Our Club Contest on the 26 February 2014 was a really great evening. The contestants gave awesome speeches and the evaluations were good too. Our members and guests in attendance provided additional helpful feedback to each of the contestants as well.

Norbert was the only participant in the German Speech Contest. The title of his speech was “Papa, schmeckt mir das?” and it was about finding our own recipe for happiness in our lives.

Martin, Bryan and Darryl all competed in the International Speech Contest. Martin in his speech “Modern Hero” talked about heroes in our everyday life and how admirable and valuable their contributions for all of us can be. Bryan told us about his recent and first ever visit to Berlin. In his speech, “Berlin – The challenge” told us about how this city affected him. It was evident that he is very impressed and emotionally touched by this city and its history. Darryl proved in his speech “Door #3” that there is always another solution. We must not always take the the obvious options, there are usually more than one or two solutions, and things are often not black and white.

The target speech for our English Evaluation contest was given by Mirja from Famous Toastmasters ("Language Doesn't Matter"). Mirja took us on a journey through her life, telling us what she has learned from each culture. It  was an impressive and fantastic speech, and so Bryan and Darryl and a lot to work with in their evaluations.

Norbert will represent us at the Area Contest with his German speech. The winner of the International Speech Contest was Martin and the winner of the Evaluation Contest English was Bryan. Congratulations to all the contestants, they did a very good job. Thank you to Patrizia for all her work in organizing the contests. Even, while battling a bad cold, she did her best to make sure we had a wonderful club contest.  Thank you to Ron and Regina for taking on the Contest Chair and Chief Judge roles at the last moment. s to all participants of the Club Contest. Thank you to all of the judges and ballot counters.  Patrizia also did something very surprising and involved people from several area clubs in the contest, a special thanks to all of the visitors that we had and it only goes to show what wonderful things we can do when we work together with others and that the Toastmaster world is far bigger than our own club, it it worth venturing out into it and visiting other clubs.  Good luck to our contestants at the Area Contest at Alt Weisbaden on 29 March.
