Results from the Word Weavers 2014 Fall Club Contest

Contests at Word Weavers are always fun and exciting, and the Club Contest we held on September 24th kept this tradition alive. A visitor (as well as one of the newer members of the club) both remarked afterwards that it was an extraordinary evening with a charge of excitement in the air. Speaking of visitors, we had several visitors including Roger from Famous as well as Diana (Martin’s oldest daughter), Tobias (a friend of Diana), and Alexis. Since we had the Humorous Speech Contest, you would expect a lot of laughs and Martin and Darryl did their best to keep the crowd in stiches.

We had a little extra tension during the evening, wondering if a couple of contestants were going to make it on time to participate. Martin was the winner of the Humorous Speech Contest and Darryl was the runner up. In the Table Topics Contest, the question was that “If your life was a book, what would the title be and what would happen in it? The question really sparked the creativity contestants. Darryl was the winner with Martin being just a little too long in his response.

Joanne did a wonderful job leading us through the evening and being the Contest Chair for both contests (all for the first time too).  Andrea was our Chief Judge, Christa was the Sargent at Arms and the Ballot Counter, and Larisa was the Timer. Thank you to everyone that helped run this successful contest!

In other news, Andrea and Darryl both showed their recent Communication Awards. Andrea earned the Advanced Communicator Silver, while Darryl earned the Advanced Communicator Bronze, congratulations to the two of them, let’s see how many other Educational Awards we can achieve this year! We have 3 speeches schedule for our October 8th meeting.  Our October 22nd meeting will focus on Toastmasters 90th Anniversary, there are a few open speaking slots, so why not think about something related to the Anniversary that you’d like to put into a speech! The Area F3/F4 Fall Contest will be held on October 11th at Alt Wiesbaden, this is a great opportunity to socialize with other Toastmasters from the area and to see some fun contests (Humorous and Table Topics) and to support our winners.  Don’t forget that Martin is collecting club dues for the next six months.  We hope to see you soon.
