About Our Club |
Who are we?
The Bossuet Gaveliers Club was chartered in June 1956. It is the oldest Toastmaster club in Europe, with an impressive record - if we say so ourselves - of member achievements and club successes.
We have some 30 members (at a typical meeting, some 8-15 will be present) of many different nationalities. Native English speakers are in the minority, but prospective members should have a reasonable command of the English language.
When do we meet?
The club meets every second and fourth Wednesday of the month from 7:30 PM at the Kirchberg Novotel Hotel and has special meetings and activities as announced. During the Covid-19 crisis, we started meeting online on Zoom and we still have hybrid meetings as some of our members live in other countries.
Do you want to improve your public speaking skills and your self-confidence? Come and have a look!
Our aim is to create a safe space for everyone to practice and get support in a friendly atmosphere. You are very welcome to visit us as a guest to see what the club feels like before joining. Membership gives you access to an online training module and the possibility to give speeches. You will also be assigned a mentor to help you prepare your first speeches.
All of us started as timid or hesitant speakers - so don't worry if you feel like that! Toastmasters is an easy and safe way to practice and improve over time.

The Toastmasters Mission A statement of shared values
Every Toastmasters club shares the same mission, clearly defined in the following mission statement:
We provide a supportive and positive learning experience in which members are empowered to develop communication and leadership skills, resulting in greater self-confidence and personal growth..
Through this mission, each Toastmaster gains a clear understanding of the club's purpose, and the organization as a whole benefits from a shared set of values and goals.
